BEYONCE & JAY-Z ‘DEJA VU’

Stu Jones: Beyonce worked it across the stage with no doubt. She set the tone and the bar for the rest of the performances that night. So it was fitting that she would open the show.  Just would have been nice if I could have played the role of Jay-Z for one song. Must be nice to get to smack all that AZZ.  You got to dream right.

SUPERSTAR: WHAT A PERFORMANCE! SHE REPRESENTED FOR ALL THOSE LOVELY DIVAS WHO ARE DOING IT BIG IN THE INDUSTRY. I KNOW YOU CAN SEE MR. JAY-Z TRYING TO LOCATE THE ASSETS WITH ACUTE PRECISION. YES! BEYONCE, GIRL HE WANTS TO KNOW WHO’S YA’ DADDY. AND, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT MR. KNOWLES. YA.YA… BLACK POWER.

BUSTA RHYMES’ TOUCH IT REMIX PERFORMANCE

Stu Jones:  Most folks will agree with me that Busta stole the spotlight from everyone else that preformed.  Now you know he packs the most energy on stage. He took it to the next level with the props and quest appearances from Eminem (I did not know he was on this track. Good to see him out again RIP Proof).  Hands down the best performance of the night.

SUPERSTAR: MANY MEN…MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY, MEN. I SAW A GANG OF PEOPLE REPRESENTING MULTIPLE LABELS. BUSTA RHYMES CREATED A NICE COLLABORATION FOR THA ’06. I GIVE HIM MAD PROPS FOR SHOWING DMX MUCH RESPECT AND TIME TO SHINE DESPITE HIS ABSENCE. LET’S KEEP THE PARTY MOVING.

JAMIE FOXX & FANTASIA!

Stu Jones: Jamie Foxx got put in a Lip-Lock by Fantasia (New Kiss Move). The kiss was nothing like the reversal so we are told. We believe that was the only reason why she came out on stage. Leaving Foxx stunned for a second or two.  It was not like she was really singing with Foxx, however, she seemed to enjoy her part. It must have been a dream for her. Got her Kiss and then bounced.

SUPERSTAR: WOW! WHAT THE HELL FANTASIA. I FEEL YOUR STRATEGY GIRL. MAKE THAT MONEY, BUT DON’T LET THE MONEY MAKE YOU. YOU ALREADY HAVE ONE EXTRA MOUTH TO FEED YOU DON’T NEED TWO. LIKE I TOLD MY MAN…JAMIE FOXX IS A COMEDIAN. HE NEEDS TO EMBRACE AND NOT ABANDON HIS CALLING. I UNDERSTAND HIS DESIRES AND ASPIRATIONS. HOWEVER, WE DON’T MAKE THE DECISIONS GOD DO, PLAYER.

GOOD TIMES GANG

Stu Jones: Well there is no question who was going to look the best out of this reunion.  Janet was wearing the Hell out of that dress.  JD is a lucky man I tell you.  Now for JJ... I am not sure what happen to him. He needed to put some Vaseline on his head.  You know if you rock a bald head to got to take care for it. Ash is a monster for us black folks. Fellas...You got to admit Thelma was looking good too.  Hood as ever, with her purse on stage. She wanted to make sure Bookman wasn't gonna rob her while she was on stage.

SUPERSTAR: GOOD TIMES….OH THE GOOD TIMES…HOW THEY SURE DO FLY ALONG WITH GOOD HEALTH AND A BOTTLE OF THAT CHEAP THIN RUNNY LOTION AFTER A HALF-HOUR OR TWO. SIKE. I HAVE LOVE FOR ALL THOSE WONDERFUL HUMANS WHO GRACED THE STAGE WITH THEIR PRESENTS. I ADMIRED THE WARM EMBRACE JANET…I MEAN…THEY RECEIVED DURING THEIR BREIF APPEARANCE. IT WAS SHORT YET DYA-NO-MITE!

CHAKA KHAN TRIBUTE

Stu Jones: Now there were a few jokers like my boy (who requested not to be named) that did not understand why Chaka Khan was being honored.  He knew about two of her hits. I am sure glad that he could watch and get educated.  So many rappers have sample this Diva.  You know you are hot when you can get Prince and Stevie Wonder to play backup for you.  The performance was awesome, she also had India Aire and Yolanda Adams singing with her. Much respect due.

SUPERSTAR: I FEEL FOR YOU…I THINK I LOVE YOU. THAT WAS MY CUT! PRINCE AND STEVIE WONDER PLAYING BACK-UP FOR CHAKA-CHAKA KHAN. WHAT A GIFT FOR A WOMAN OF HER STATURE. HUMULITY HAS NO LIMITS. I ENJOYED THE REDITIONS OF HER SONGS. HOWEVER, I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO ERKYAH BADU SINGING “STAY” AND MARY J. BLIGE “SWEET THANG”, AND A GUEST APPEARANCE FROM WHITNEY (YES, I SAID WHITNEY) SANGING “I’M EVERYONE”. BUT WHATEVER FLOATS BET’S BOAT MUST DUE.

CHRIS BROWN “YO/GIMME THAT/ETC”

Stu Jones: You can't hate on Chris Brown cause he did it up.  I keep seeing shades of Michael Jackson all over the stage.  He defiantly stepped his dance game up and rock the show. But I though for sure that the platform was going to cave in on him.  Leave it to BET to cut corners on making the stage props.

SUPERSTAR: OKAY. FIRST AND FOREMOST, EVERYONE I KNOW, KNOWS I AM A CHRIS BROWN FANATIC. I LOVE THIS YOUNG MAN. HE IS A FINE HI-YELLA BROTHA DOING THE DAG ON THANG. I AM LOVING CHRIS’ YOUTHFULLNESS AND ABILITY TO MAKE HIS DREAM A REALITY AND HIS SMILE (DAMN THAT COLGATE SMILE). IT MAKES YOU ALMOST FORGET THE BROTHER TALKS FROM THE CORNER OF HIS MOUTH. HONESTLY, IF I DID NOT HAVE A MAN, CHRIS BROWN I WOULD WANT YOU TO “GIMME THAT”.

KEYSHIA COLE - LOVE

Stu Jones: You would be a hater if you would say she was not looking good. I was just looking for more than one song.  She could have remixed something.  She walked down the aisle pretty slow. I did not think she was going to make it to the stage. When it was all said and done she did her thing.

SUPERSTAR: LOOOOVE, LOVVVE. Y’ALL SLEEPING ON MY GIRL KEYSHIA COLE SHE IS GOING TO SNEAK UP ON YOU AND BITE YOU IN THE BUTT. MY GIRL CAN SING HER BUTT OFF. SHE IS HELLA SEXY AND STREET. SHE IS THE ICON OF MOST MALES BECAUSE SHE HAS THE “GIRL NEXT DOOR” APPEAL. I ALWAYS ENJOY LISTENING TO HER SULTRY VOICE. HOWEVER, THE STAGE PRESENTS NEED SOME MORE APPEAL AND CENTERING. IT WAS A SIMPLE YET NOT EXTRAORDINARY FOR SOMETHING LIKE THE BET AWARDS. THIS IS THE TIME FOR HER TO REALLY SHINE…WHY WAS SHE HIDING HER TALENTS. FORGET WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THE DRESS. I RESPECT A WOMAN WHO WANTS TO BE HEAR AND NOT SEEN (IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN). SHE IS AN ARTIST, NOT A GROUPIE. SHE IS A PROFESSIONAL NOT A VIDEO VIXEN.

TI ‘WHAT YOU KNOW’

Stu Jones: The trooper of the year award goes to T.I.  What gives mr. BET soundman.  The audio was all jacked-up but my man T.I. keep it going and still gave us a hot show. On the real... I would have made them reset my music. They had live band on stage. They could have made something happed for him.

SUPERSTAR: I ENJOYED HIS ABILITY TO STAY PROFESSIONAL WHILE PERFORMING LIVE AT THE BET AWARDS. HE COULD HAVE LEFT THE STAGE AND SAID, “FIND THE SOUNDMAN”. HOWEVER, HE STAYED FOCUS ON HIS PURPOSE AND WON ME OVER. WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT!

YOUNG JOC & DIDDY

Stu Jones: What the Hell was going on with this performance.  Yes, it was a funny what Diddy called out BET for messing up on T.I. performance, however, Young Joc lost major cool points with me for the Lip Syncing.  Rappers are not suppose to do that!!! I don't know why you would be doing that maybe he lost his voice( I doubt it though).  But, if you got to Lip Sync you own song you better not mess-up.  Joc was looking like my drunk friends at Karaoke night messing his own words.

SUPERSTAR: AGAIN. THE SOUNDMAN COMMITTED ANOTHER FATAL ERROR. I FEEL WORRY FOR OLD DUDE. I AM SURE HE WAS FIRED. DIDDY ROCKED IT AND YOUNG JOCK GOT HIS OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE. EVERYTHING WAS FINE.

MARY J. BLIGE PERFORMANCE

Stu Jones:  Well I don't want to blast Mary J. too bad, however, just had a few things.  First, what was up with the one outfit thing. She was on stage singing a few times.  Everyone else seemed to be able to switch up the gear between stage time. She took off her jacket and that was the extent of her wardrobe change.  Second, she could have used some background dancers of something because she needed more energy.

SUPERSTAR: SHE IS MY BIG-SISTER. MARY IF YOU ARE READING THIS I JUST WANT TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK YOU FOR GETTING ME THROUGH SOME HARD TIMES WITH THE PUPPYLOVE. YOUR ABLUMS GREW WITH ME AND MY RELATIONSHIPS. I ADMIRE YOUR STRENGHT AND ABILITY TO RISE TO THE OCCASION DESPITE THE CHANGES OF TIME. I ASPIRE TO MAKE A MAN HAPPY ONE DAY JUST LIKE YOU. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. YOU HAVE DONE A LOT FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF BLACK WOMEN IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. YOU TURN HEADS AND MAKE EVERYONE STAND TO THEIR FEET BECAUSE YOU DEMAND RESPECT.

MARY MARY PERFORMANCE

Stu Jones: These two sisters rock the show.  They brought us back to church and did a great job.

SUPERSTAR: WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? I CAN’T UNDERSTAND YOU. MARY MARY SHOUTED THE LORD INTO YOUR LIFE. I DID NOT QUITE CATCH THE ENDING OF THE PERFORMANCE. THE SHOUTING STARTED TO LOSE ITS HARMONY AND PURPOSE. IT BECAME A SHOUTING MATCH. I LOVE GOSPEL MUSIC BUT WE HAVE TO KEEP FOCUS ON THE PURPOSE…LYRICAL CONTENT. I GUESS YOU MUST THINK I AM NOT FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST. UH…YEAH I AM. YOU BETTA’ CHECK MY REPORT.

Harry Belafonte Speech

Stu Jones: Harry Belafonte was out looking good for 70.  He brought it home with some knowledge and challenged us to me a difference in this world. Mad props!!!

SUPERSTAR: BLACK POWER! I LOVE THE RESPECT AND ADMIRATION WE SHOW OUR FELLOW BROWN BROTHERS. “YOU’RE MY BROWN BROTHA…I LOVE YA.”

DAMON WAYANS AS THE HOST?

Stu Jones:  Now BET better not ever let this brother host ever again.  Not ever the dance groups on 106 and Park.  The jokes were all wack and he did not keep the show moving. I hope they did not pay him for that.

SUPERSTAR: THE FIRST IMPRESSION IS THE MOST VITAL PERCEPTION. UNFORTUNATELY, MR. WAYANS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THAT ONE AND THE FOLLOWING ONES. HE COULD HAVE REDEEMED HIMSELF BUT IT WAS NOT WORKING FOR HIM. I COULD NOT HELP BUT TO BE DISTRACTED BY HIS “TIE”. I WANTED TO READ “HOW TO TIE A TIE FOR DUMMIES” JUST TO HELP HIM OUT. PERSONALLY, I KNEW HE WAS NOT INTERESTED IN HOSTING THE AWARDS BUT WHEN MONEY CALLS SOME PEOPLE CHOOSE TO ANSWER. BESIDES THE REDUNDANT BET REWARDS COMMERCIAL I DID NOT SEE ANY ADDITIONAL PROMOTIONS ON HIS PART.

OVERALL FEEL FOR THE SHOW..

Stu Jones:  I like the show overall even though there were some problems.  But what live show goes exactly as planned.  I just wish there had been a better host and better sound technicians.  The event as a whole was very classy and no violence or beef showed up.  It is always good to see us out together without the drama.  Not like the Source Awards.

SUPERSTAR: I WAS BORED BY THE SHOW. I EXPECTED A GREAT FOLLOW-UP FROM LAST YEAR. HOWEVER, IT WAS TOTALLY NOT WORTH WATCHING FROM BEING TO END. PEACE.
