Rapper Paperboy, who is
known for the 90s hit single "Ditty," was arrested in Merced, California on
Wednesday (June 13) for allegedly selling marijuana.
According to the Merced Sun-Star, the 34-year-old rapper (real name:
Mitchell Charles Johnson) was arrested at around 6:30 p.m. after being pulled
over and police found him in possession of nearly $1,200 worth of marijuana,
said local authorities.
The former rapper was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of possession
and sale of marijuana, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana and
transportation of marijuana for sale.
Police said the former rapper has been under investigation for several weeks and
were able to obtain a search warrant to search his residence, but a search of
his property did not turn up any further drugs, aside from paper bag with
marijuana residue.
Johnson remains behind bars at Merced County Jail where he is being held on
$20,000 bail.
In 1993, Johnson enjoyed success with his single "Ditty," which peaked at no. 24
on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and helped his album The Nine Yards
reach gold status. He continued to release albums, the last being in 2004, but
was unable to garner the same success he had in the early 90s.
